Following last two year's successful MIW workshop on Web-based teaching and
learning, we will continue to explore various issues of e-learning from different
perspectives. With the rapid advance of Internet technology, the Web offers a
new and sophisticated information delivery platform, which in turn provides
teaching and learning with the kind of environment and facilities that are
not always available in traditional classroom-based teaching. The ultimate
goal of e-learning is to take education to people rather than the other way
round. It ensures that education is more accessible by a larger population
anywhere in the world. In addition, e-learning represents a new way of
teaching in which the learning experience can be personalized based on each
individual's knowledge, needs and background.
In the past 2-3 years, there has been a soaring demand for Web-based learning
environment, content and services. This workshop aims at serving the advanced
online and distance learning markets by providing strategies, technologies,
and end-to-end solutions to the corporate, academia and government sectors.
We hope that the workshop will provide an opportunity for a comprehensive
discussion on all related issues of traditional distance learning and the new
Web-based online learning.
The relevant topics may include the following (but not limited to):
- e-Learning solutions and strategies
- Successful projects and experience
- New software development for e-learning
- e-Learning and e-business
- Multimedia education for e-learning
- Web personalization for e-learning
- Data mining and knowledge discovery on the
Web
- Web Information retrieval and extraction
- Web-database technology
- Data warehousing on the Web
- Data visualization on the Web
